Every option, explained
Lagos Life character creation
Lagos Life’s character creator is unusually Lagos-specific for a browser game. Here is every layer, what the options actually mean, and how to avoid rebuilding your character later.
- 6 layers
- Asooke · Ankara · Gele
- Style sets
Why this matters more here than in other life sims
In a single-player life sim, your character's appearance is for you. In Lagos Life it is for everyone: the game is multiplayer, thousands of people share the city, and there are public roles where being recognisable is an advantage. A Governor campaigns on a slogan and a look.
So this is worth two minutes rather than ten seconds. Here is what you are actually choosing between.
The layers
| Layer | Options in the game | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Body | Two builds | The base silhouette everything else sits on. |
| Style | casual, casual2, smart, party | The overall register of the outfit — this drives how the other layers read. |
| Outfit | asooke, ankara, plain | The big decision. Asooke is the formal Yoruba ceremonial look; ankara is the everyday print; plain is neutral. |
| Hair | lowcut, curly, gele, bonestraight, default | Gele is the wrapped headpiece worn for occasions. Bonestraight and lowcut read as everyday. |
| Shoes | whiteSneakers, oxfords, goldHeels | Follows the style set — sneakers for casual, oxfords for smart, gold heels for party. |
| Bag | duffel, pinkMini | Small but visible. A duffel reads practical, a pink mini reads going out. |
| Colours | Skin, hair colour, top, bottom, shoe and bag colours | Full colour pickers, so the combinations are effectively unlimited. |
Three looks that work, and when to use them
Because the style sets are coherent, you can think in whole outfits rather than individual pieces.
The everyday Lagosian
casual + ankara + lowcut + whiteSneakers. This is the look that matches how the city actually dresses most days. Ankara brings colour without being formal, lowcut keeps it practical, sneakers handle the walking. If you want a character that feels like a person living in Lagos rather than a character in a game, start here.
The occasion look
party + asooke + gele + goldHeels. This is the owambe look — the one for a wedding, a naming ceremony, a big night. Gele with asooke is the most visually distinctive combination in the creator, and it is the one that will make you recognisable at Quilox or Eko Hotels. It is a statement, and in a social game statements are useful.
The serious one
smart + plain + oxfords + duffel. Understated, professional, and the natural fit if you intend to spend time around the Office, the High Court or CcHub — or if you are planning to run for Governor and want to look like you mean it.
A Governor candidate is identified by a username, a slogan and a look. Pick something readable at a glance on a crowded city map — a strong single colour and gele or a distinctive bag does more for recognition than a subtle outfit.
Naming: the part you cannot easily undo
Your display name and your @username are how other players find and identify you, and the game is explicit that you should pick a username that is not offensive and does not pretend to be someone else. It is also the field you are most likely to regret.
- Your username is public and permanent in practice. It appears on the map, in elections and in chats.
- Your display name is what shows in the city. A display name like "Tolu Adebayo" with a username like
tolu_ekois the pattern the sign-up screen itself suggests. - Give them an email. It is optional, but the form says plainly that without one a lost password cannot be reset. That is a one-field decision that can cost you an account — see how to play.

What you cannot change
Lagos Life's creator does not offer a reset, so treat character creation as a one-off. If you are unsure, the safe move is the everyday look — it is the one that is never out of place, and the social parts of the game are in what you do rather than what you wear.
