What to play next

Games like Lagos Life

Lagos Life sits between The Sims and a multiplayer social world. Depending on which half you liked, here is where to go next.

First, which half of Lagos Life did you like?

Lagos Life is two things bolted together, and people who love it tend to love one half more than the other:

  • The life-sim half — a character, a home, an income, a slow accumulation of stuff. If this is what hooked you, you want a deeper single-player sim.
  • The Lagos half — the specific city, the danfo, NEPA, the locations, the jokes that only land if you know Lagos. If this is what hooked you, you want more Lagos games.

There is also a third thing Lagos Life does that almost nothing else does, and it is worth naming separately.

The thing Lagos Life does that The Sims does not

Other players govern you. Lagos Life has a live election: a sitting Governor with a slogan and a policy, a field of rival candidates with public vote counts, and a policy that is applied to the entire city when it wins. When the policy in office was transport, every player in Lagos saw the headline "Transport subsidy is law this week."

The Sims gives you a world that waits for you. Lagos Life gives you a city that is already happening, with or without you. That is the actual innovation, and it is the thing to look for if you are chasing the same feeling.

If you want the life-sim half

GameWhy it is like Lagos LifeWhere it differs
The Sims 4 Deeper character and home simulation, far more objects, decades of content. Single-player, paid, and needs a real PC or console. No shared city, no player government.
Animal Crossing Gentle life rhythms, home building, a persistent world you return to daily. Console-only, cosy rather than urban, and no real multiplayer politics.
Stardew Valley A life you build on a daily cycle, with genuine progression. Rural, single-player at heart, and nothing like Lagos.

If you want the Lagos half

The Lagos browser scene is the better answer here, and it is where the energy is. Our Lagos games hub lists the lot — danfo driving games, tycoon builders and open-world action — but the short version:

If you want the multiplayer social half

This is the hardest gap to fill, because persistent multiplayer life sims barely exist — the genre is expensive to run and most attempts die. Lagos Life is unusual for surviving it at scale, with a peak of over 109,000 concurrent players.

The realistic alternatives are social worlds rather than life sims: games where the shared city is the point and the life simulation is thinner. If what you actually enjoyed was being in a crowd of real people in a place that feels like somewhere, that is the trade you are making.
