Does Lagos Life need a download?
Lagos Life is a browser game. There is no app to install and no APK to find. Here is how to play it right now, and the one optional shortcut worth knowing.
- No installer
- No APK
- Optional home-screen app
Taking longer than usual. If it stalls, the game is still playable in its own tab.
No — and that is the point
Lagos Life does not need a download. It is a browser game, start to finish. There is no app in the Play Store, no iOS build, no installer, and no APK to go hunting for on a third-party site. You open it and you are in the city.
This is not a limitation the game is working around. It is the reason Lagos Life spread as fast as it did. It went from launch to a million players in three days on mobile data in Nigeria, and a store download step would have killed that. Tapping a link and being in the game is the whole growth strategy.
Because there is no official download, any site offering a "Lagos Life APK" or an installer is not the game. The official route is the browser. Do not install anything claiming to be Lagos Life.
How to play instead
Use the game window above, or go to the play page. Press play once and Lagos Life loads in place. That is the entire installation process.
The one optional shortcut: add it to your home screen
Lagos Life ships a web app manifest, which means it can behave like an app without being one. If you play on your phone and want it to feel less like a website:
- Android (Chrome): open the game, then use the browser menu and choose Add to Home screen / Install app.
- iPhone (Safari): open the game, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
This creates an icon that launches Lagos Life without browser chrome, full screen, like a native game. Underneath it is still the website — you are not installing anything, and it updates itself whenever the game updates.
How big is the game, if nothing is downloaded?
Lagos Life is a full 3D city, so it does stream a meaningful amount of data the first time you open it — 3D models, textures and fonts. Its service worker is explicit about how this is handled: application code is cached permanently, models, icons and fonts are served from cache and refreshed in the background, and game data is never cached, so your game state always comes live from the server.
Practically: your first load is the slow one. After that, relaunches are fast because the app code is already cached on your device. On a slow connection the game shows a friendly loader rather than a blank screen, with an option to start fresh if it stalls.
Will there ever be a real app?
Nothing has been announced. The game's own roadmap signals point elsewhere: two locations inside the Lagos map — Airport and Refinery — are already labelled Coming soon, and Abuja Life and Port Harcourt Life have been reported as in development. The expansion is happening inside the browser, which suggests the browser is where it stays.
