What is Lagos Life?
Lagos Life is a free browser-based life simulation game set in Lagos, Nigeria. You create a character, choose a home in a neighbourhood such as Yaba, Mushin or Banana Island, and live a virtual Lagos life — travelling to named locations, dealing with NEPA power cuts, reading a daily headline and taking part in a city-wide election. It is multiplayer, so other players share the same city.
Is Lagos Life free?
Yes. Lagos Life is free to play. The game itself advertises "playing right now — free". Optional in-game naira top-ups bought with real money are available, and the game sells in-city advertising to brands, but neither is required to play.
Do I need to download Lagos Life?
No. Lagos Life runs entirely in a web browser. There is no app store download, no installer and no update to manage. On a phone you can optionally add it to your home screen as a web app so it opens without browser chrome, but the game is always the website.
Can I play Lagos Life on this page?
Yes. The game window on our homepage and play page loads Lagos Life from its official servers. Press play and it runs windowed; use the Fullscreen button for the full city. No game data is downloaded until you press play.
Why does sign-in not work inside the embed?
Lagos Life keeps you signed in with a cookie, and Safari and Firefox block third-party cookies inside embedded windows. That means registering or logging in through an embed can fail silently. Playing as a guest in the embed works fine — use the Sign up / Log in button when you want to create an account and save progress.
How old do you have to be to play Lagos Life?
Lagos Life is 18+. The age badge is shown on the game and the requirement is enforced when you register, so you cannot create an account below that age.
Is Lagos Life available on mobile?
Yes. Lagos Life is built for phones and most of its players are on mobile. It runs in the mobile browser with no download, and ships a web app manifest so it can be added to your home screen.
Is Lagos Life the same as The Sims?
No, though it is openly inspired by it — the creator has said the idea began with The Sims 3. Lagos Life is its own game built around Lagos, and unlike The Sims it is multiplayer and social, with a live city election, in-game advertising and thousands of concurrent players.
Does Lagos Life have other cities besides Lagos?
Lagos is the live city. Abuja Life and Port Harcourt Life have been reported as in development. Within the Lagos map, the Airport and Refinery locations are already labelled Coming soon.
How do you make money in Lagos Life?
You earn in-game naira by playing, and you can optionally top up your wallet with real money through the game’s own payment provider. In-game naira has no real-world value and cannot be cashed out, sold or transferred outside the game.
How do Lagos Life elections work?
The city has a sitting Governor with a slogan and an active policy, plus a field of player candidates with live vote counts, all running in terms. The winner takes office and sets a policy that applies city-wide — when the policy in office was transport, the city headline became the transport subsidy. The Polling Unit on the map is the election location.
Does Lagos Life use ad trackers?
The game states plainly on its own cookie notice: "We use a cookie to keep you signed in, and another to count visits. No ad trackers, ever." If you choose Essential only, the game may simply not remember you between visits.
Can I lose my Lagos Life password?
You can, and whether you can recover it depends on one optional field. The sign-up form’s email field is optional and is only used to reset your password. The game warns that without an email, a lost password cannot be reset — so it is worth filling in.
Why is the city quiet sometimes?
Lagos Life is multiplayer, so the map is other people. During off-peak hours it can feel empty; during busy periods it is genuinely alive, with thousands of players online at once. If your first impression is a quiet city, try again at a busier time.
Does Lagos Life have advertising inside the game?
Yes. Lagos Life sells billboard slots in the city and large advertising plots out on Lagos Lagoon. The brands you see on the map are real advertisers who bought the placement, and the slots expire and free up over time.
